About this lecture

Traditionally the femminielli, homosexual men who dress as women, are an accepted phenomenon in Neapolitan culture. By means of literature and music co-curator for the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht 2019 Thomas Höft goes in search of Naples’ stories. Alongside Prof. dr. Rosi Braidotti (Utrecht University) he examines whether the femminielli’s way of life, between church and society, between poverty and respect, can be a model for society in the future. Neapolitan actress Cristina Donadio – known as 'Scianel' from the crime series Gomorra – willl also take part in the discussion.
