About this lecture

The relationship between rhetoric and music is clearly described in historical sources and has been widely discussed in Early Music circles since the 1980s, yet few have looked at this relationship in the light of historical spoken performances by actors and preachers. By skipping words and going straight to music, the practitioners of Early Music are denying themselves access to information that could inspire them in their music-making. Dr. Jed Wentz elucidates his most recent forays into the world of spoken theatre in the 17th and 18th centuries.
