About this lecture
On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Sweelinck’s death, a new biography by musicologist and harpsichordist Pieter Dirksen will be published this summer. What is so special about Sweelinck’s music, and what makes him one of the greatest composers of his time? In this presentation Dirksen is seeking the answer to this question, taking as his guide the Fantasia cromatica, a harpsichord piece which will of course also be heard.
