About this lecture
Most musicians in the early music scene want to probe the past to recreate lost sounds and aesthetic worlds. Historical instruments and historical sources are the tools of choice. But is it really possible to bring the past back to life?

About the speaker
Mimi Mitchell enjoys a dual international career as a historical violinist and musicologist. She studied musicology and violin in the USA, came to Amsterdam to study Baroque violin with Jaap Schröder, and was awarded her PhD with The Revival of the Baroque Violin at the University of Amsterdam in 2019. She teaches at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and is currently editing a book of essays about the future of the early music movement.
