About this concert

‘Paradise on earth’: Luther’s words reflect the admiration that many generations of music fanatics have felt for Josquin Desprez. More than 500 years later his oeuvre has lost none of its technical mastery, poetry and power of expression. Weser-Renaissance from Bremen is glad to act as Josquin’s champion with this full-blooded programme based around the Missa Ave maris stella plus a selection of Marian motets.

About the performers

With a varying line-up of both instrumentalists and singers, the vocal ensemble Weser Renaissance Bremen performs a wide range of repertoire. In 1983 Manfred Cordes became the ensemble’s director, and since then Weser Renaissance has become a much sought-after ensemble for 16th and 17th-century music. For the past few years the ensemble has worked with an entirely new cast, and has received much praise for its recordings of Josquin Desprez and Cristóbal Morales. Recent CDs include works by Johann Walter, Tobias Michael and Giacomo Carissimi.
