About this concert

Every age has its icons. For example, Jean-Philippe Rameau was catapulted into eternal fame thanks to his brilliant operas and equally brilliant keyboard music. Other top talents, such as Jacques Duphly, slipped between the cracks of time. Full of character and yet refined, chivalrous yet profound: in the hands of Laurent Stewart, Duphly’s oeuvre will turn out to be one of the revelations of the Utrecht Early Music Festival 2018.

About the performer

Harpsichordist Laurent Stewart is known primarily for his sensitive interpretations of European 17th-century harpsichord repertoire, but these days he is focusing with the same degree of passion on the Enlightenment. His love of the harpsichord has given him the unrivalled ability to master different styles of playing and to evoke different temperaments – so inquisitive and emotional is his playing.
