About this concert

As the son of one of Naples’ most prominent musical families Gennaro Manna was blessed with a pen both versatile and skilled. And as an icon of the Neapolitan opera seria, with his lively and galant style of music, he trod the path between Baroque and pre-Classical. During the Utrecht Early Music Festival 2019, Abchordis Ensemble performs the world premiere of his finest arias, alternated with instrumental works by Durante, Porpora and Santangelo.

About the performers

In 2011 Abchordis was born of a desire to rediscover hitherto unknown masterpieces from the Italian Baroque. Under Andrea Buccarella’s direction the ensemble carries out extensive research, and has earned two artistic residencies, in Ambronay and in Pavia. In 2013 the ensemble was invited to participate in the REMA Showcase (Réseau Européen de Musique Ancienne). 2016 saw the release of its first CD entitled Stabat Mater, with unpublished Neapolitan Baroque works. Its second CD, Dies Irae, followed in 2018.
