About the performers
Soprano Claron McFadden studied at the Eastman School of Music in New York. She made her opera debut in 1985 at the Holland Festival. Since then, McFadden has proven herself to be one of the most versatile singers of her generation. As a soloist she worked with William Christie, Fabio Biondi and Frans Brüggen, among others, and with orchestras such as the Residentie Orkest, The Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. She has performed opera roles in productions by La Scala, Dutch National Opera and the Bayerische Staatsoper. During the Rotterdam Opera Days 2019 Claron McFadden received a special oeuvre prize. In April 2020, she was appointed Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau.
Dutch lutenist and conductor Mike Fentross has amply earned his spurs as an early music specialist. He works all over Europe as a conductor, soloist and continuo player, is artistic director of the ensemble La Sfera Armoniosa, conductor of La Sfera Armoniosa Orchestra and teaches main subject lute and basso continuo at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague. In 2017 he conducted a Purcell programme at the Philharmonie in Essen. The CD was released this year on the Challenge Records International label and has received much critical acclaim in the press. This year also saw the release of a lute solo CD with newly discovered music by John Dowland.
