About the performers
Led by Conrad Steinmann, Ensemble Melpomen is dedicated to the musical exploration of ancient Classic Greece. The ensemble appears in different formations, including singers and players of bárbitos, percussion and aulos. Most of the members of the ensemble have graduated from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, the institute which also provided Conrad Steinmann and instrument maker Paul J. Reichlin with a research grant to work on the theme of Greek instruments.
Dutch actor Kees Boot studied at the Amsterdam Theatre School. He came to the attention of a wide audience as a hurried manager in a Cup-a-Soup commercial and as Johnny in the television series All Stars. In 2003 Boot won the Arlecchino award for best supporting actor in Ben Elton’s satirical play Popcorn. In addition to his theatre and television work, he has played in many films, including Mariken, Floris and De brief voor de Koning.
