About this concert

Siena, circa 1600. Courtiers are preparing for an evening of musical entertainment, but they do not know which style is most suitable. It is the start of a song contest in which the musicians interpret fourteen madrigals with their own temperament: cheerful, serious, affectionate, sincere… At the end of the evening they choose which mood is musically the most convincing.

About the performers

InVocare was born in the Advanced Vocal Ensemble Studies programme at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel. With members originating from five different continents, the vocal ensemble specializes in English and Italian madrigals from the 16th and 17th centuries. These keen madrigalists want to affect and move listeners through exquisite tuning, hushed silence, spoken word and unconventional settings on stage. InVocare was honoured with the title ‘IYAP Selected Promising Ensemble 2019’ by the International Young Artist's Presentation in Antwerp.
