About this concert

Refined, intelligent and with a voice that is one in a thousand: Reinoud Van Mechelen is a musician you just must hear live. For this concert the young tenor will present his own ensemble a nocte temporis and the Chœur de Chambre de Namur: an appropriate calibre for Louis-Nicolas Clérambault’s emotional scores.

From hymn to cantata to oratorio: the French Baroque giant proves to be a true storyteller, who effortlessly switches between dramatic registers, with telling characterisations, inventive instrumentations and thorough word paintings. A nocte temporis has won numerous prizes for its recording of Clérambault’s cantatas with a small ensemble. This time they are going for ‘Baroque extra-large’.

About the performers

After several years of working as a soloist with conductors including William Christie, Philippe Herreweghe and Hervé Niquet, tenor Reinoud Van Mechelen formed his own ensemble a nocte temporis in 2016. He surrounded himself with like-minded musicians such as Anna Besson (traverso) and Ronan Kernoa (cello). The group’s name, meaning ‘since time immemorial’, is a nod to the past. The ensemble’s CDs have been very well received. Their album with music by Louis-Nicolas Cérambault has been awarded with a CHOC de Classica, a Diapason d'Or, a Diamant d’Opéra and a Le Choix de France Musique award.

Since its creation in 1987, the Chœur de Chambre de Namur has promoted the musical heritage of its region of origin through concerts and recordings of works by Lassus, Rogier, Hayne, Du Mont, Fiocco, Gossec, Grétry, while also taking on great works from the choral repertoire. Their repertoire ranges from the Middle Ages to contemporary music. The Choir has made a number of critically acclaimed recordings and was awarded the Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros in 2003, the Prix de l’Académie Française in 2006, the Octave de la Musique in 2007 and in 2012 the choir won in the categories of ‘Classical Music’ and ‘Show of the Year’. The Chœur de Chambre de Namur is supported by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (music and dance department), the National Lottery, the City and the Province of Namur.
