About this concert

The 150 poems from the Book of Psalms form the basis of the choral prayer that has given rhythm to the daily life of countless faith religious communities since the Middle Ages. Hendrik Vanden Abeele and Psallentes start this Day of Hours with Lauds, which together with the vespers form the backbone of the office.

About the performers

The ensemble Psallentes was founded in 2000 by singer and conductor Hendrik Vanden Abeele. The ensemble seeks out plainchant and associated polyphony from various historical periods. Particular attention is paid to plainchant of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. Insights into this are fostered by practice-based research by Vanden Abeele. Since 2007 Psallentes has been operating in male-only and female-only line-ups.
