About this concert

From the extreme South to the furthest North: the stylus phantasticus spread throughout Europe. Fantasy, frivolity and phenomenal virtuosity combined in compositions designed to highlight not only the genius of their creator, but also that of their interpreter. The Castello Consort forms a colourful collective to present a selection from Frescobaldi’s extravagant repertoire, the extraordinary sounds created by Buxtehude and the remarkable synthesis style of Rosenmüller.

About the performers

The Dutch Castello Consort has a passion for music from the Renaissance and Early Baroque periods. The musicians are characterized by their lilting, expressive sound and harmonious interplay. The basis of the ensemble is formed by Elise Dupont (violin), Matthijs van der Moolen (sackbut) and Anne-Linde Visser (bass violin, cello and viola da gamba), but guest musicians join each programme. In their search for new timbres Castello Consort had a transportable pipe organ built by organ builders Reil.
