About this concert
The name Richard Egarr is synonymous with early music royalty. From choir boy to keyboard hero, from top soloist to music director. In this recital he returns to his great love: the harpsichord. With grounds as catchy as they are varied, and jigs and tunes of near-contemporaries John Blow and Henry Purcell, Egarr colours in the picture of English keyboard music circa 1700 as only he can.

About the performer
Richard Egarr trained as a choirboy at York Minster, at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, and as organ scholar at Clare College Cambridge. He brings a joyful sense of adventure and a keen, enquiring mind to all his music-making – whether conducting, directing from the keyboard, giving recitals or playing chamber music. Egarr is music director of the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and Chorale, principal guest director of the Residentie Orkest in The Hague, and artistic partner of the St Paul Chamber Orchestra. In Summer 2021, he concluded his tenure as music director of the Academy of Ancient Music after fifteen years. He has conducted many symphony orchestras such as London Symphony, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
