About this concert

Rome, 1707. In his twenties and ambitious, Georg Friedrich Händel sets out to get to know the mecca of transalpine art, its musical trends and its superstars. Soprano Stefanie True has unearthed the most beautiful melodies from two of Handel’s Roman cantatas. With a trio sonata that probably belongs to his earliest Italian works, La Sfera Armoniosa reveals just how much this young man already had to offer.

About the performers

The Dutch Baroque ensemble and orchestra La Sfera Armoniosa was founded in 1992 and is conducted by Mike Fentross. Alongside music by famous composers such as Monteverdi, Handel and Vivaldi, the ensemble plays lesser-known repertoire from seventeenth and eighteenth-century prints and manuscripts. La Sfera Armoniosa is known for its groundbreaking programmes, including the high-profile Schönberg-Monteverdi project during the Utrecht Early Music Festival 2004.
