About this concert
Música Temprana is known for its thrilling performances, with a southern tint, which are always a source of discovery. That promises to be so more than ever in this festival edition, because with a selection of songs from the late fifteenth-century Cancionero de Palacio, Adrián Rodríguez Van der Spoel’s ensemble serves up some unique repertoire.
In a particularly poetic genre, young women tell their mothers about facts and feelings related to the transition from childhood to adulthood. They confess their amorous exploits and intimate desires, while their mothers comfort, advise and warn of male mischief. Five hundred years later these secrets from the Spain of the Reyes Católicos are revealed once more.

About the performers
Música Temprana was founded in 2001 by the Argentine-Dutch conductor Adrián Rodríguez Van der Spoel, and specializes in Latin-American Baroque repertoire. The musicians of Música Temprana are classically trained but all have roots in the musical tradition of Latin America, as a result of which Baroque and folklore go hand in hand. Most of Música Temprana’s repertoire comes from the archives, cathedrals and Jesuit missions of Latin America, where Van der Spoel regularly hunts for forgotten compositions.
