About this concert
Michel Lambert's Leçons de ténèbres were originally performed by three singers. Festival resident Marc Mauillon does it all on his own, with a voice that can handle both tenor and baritone registers. The theorbo and viola da gamba make the craftsmanship of Lambert's colleague Nicolas Hotman resound: in this last concert of the trilogy his instrumental works alternate with the Leçons and the Gregorian responsoria.

About the performers
Exploring the relationship between words and music is at the heart of Marc Mauillon's artistic approach. Further characteristics are the ability to sing both baritone and tenor parts, a recognisable timbre and a feeling for colour and diction - all combined with an insatiable curiosity. His repertoire ranges from the Middle Ages to the present, from lieder to opera.
Myriam Rignol studied viola da gamba with Rainer Zipperling, Wieland Kuijken, Jordi Savall and Philippe Pierlot, among others. She is a member of Les Arts Florissants, the Ensemble Pygmalion and the Ricercar Consort; in addition, she collaborates with various other ensembles or orchestras, such as Le Poème Harmonique, a nocte temporis and Ensemble Correspondances. She is a conservatoire teacher in Besançon and Lyon.
After studying classical guitar and sound engineering, Thibaut Roussel decided to specialise in early music. He went on to study lute, theorbo and Baroque guitar. Fascinated with the French musical heritage of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, nowadays he concerns himself above all with the rediscovery of forgotten composers. He can regularly be found on stage with leading Baroque ensembles, such as Ensemble Pygmalion, Ensemble Correspondances and La Rêveuse.
Harpsichordist and choral conductor Marouan Mankar-Bennis studied with Blandine Rannou, Olivier Baumont and Bob van Asperen, among others. He is particularly active with the ensemble Le Poème Harmonique conducted by Vincent Dumestre. As a soloist he performs on the harpsichord, clavichord and fortepiano. In 2017, he founded his own ensemble, La Lyre d'Orphée.
