About this concert

‘Never before did a brilliant mind conceive music of such grandeur, daring and fantasy,’ observed Gottfried van Swieten after hearing a symphony by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. In addition, the symphony in F major (‘the dissonant one’) by his brother Wilhelm Friedemann must have sounded quite alienating to his contemporaries. With C.P.E.'s cello concerto in A major, Pulcinella completes the eulogy to the Bach brothers.
