About this concert
The twelfth-century oeuvre that sprang from the minds of poet-performers south of the Loire was the cradle of Western art music. Troubadours such as Marcabru, Bernart de Ventadorn and Giraut de Bornelh wrote and collected a wealth of songs. Artist in residence Marc Mauillon, his sister Angélique, and eminent recorder player Pierre Hamon bring together the most beautiful of these in a medieval aubade.

About the performers
Exploring the relationship between words and music is at the heart of Marc Mauillon's artistic approach. Further characteristics are the ability to sing both baritone and tenor parts, a recognisable timbre and a feeling for colour and diction - all combined with an insatiable curiosity. His repertoire ranges from the Middle Ages to the present, from lieder to opera.
After studying harp at conservatory, Angélique Mauillon chose to specialise in the interpretation of early music. She also obtained a degree in musicology. Mauillon has a broad repertoire, ranging from the thirteenth to the eighteenth century. She plays the medieval harp with the Alla Francesca and Tasto Solo ensembles, and the renaissance harp with Doulce Mémoire and Les Jardins de Courtoisie. She also performs together with her brother Marc, himself a singer.
Recorder player Pierre Hamon has played an important part in the development of early music in France since the 1980s. He has been working with Jordi Savall since 1995. To deepen his approach to early music, he is interested in traditional music from Europe and other cultures. Hamon is also active as a teacher and as a composer of film music.
