About this concert
Le Caravansérail has selected music from the varied oeuvre of Johann Christian Bach that is reminiscent of what his brother C.P.E. wrote for the Berlin court. A sinfonia by Wilhelm Friedemann for two flutes, plus canons by Johann Sebastian Bach, remind one of their visit to Frederick the Great in 1747. Their pupil Johann Gottlieb Goldberg rounds off the programme with a concerto for harpsichord and strings.

About the performers
The French Baroque ensemble Le Caravansérail is a new venture for harpsichordist Bertrand Cuiller. He founded the group in 2015, having conducted John Blow’s opera Venus & Adonis. From 2015 until 2017 the group was artist in residence at the Abbey of Royaumont. Its first CD, A Fancy, appeared in 2017 and has been well received in the press.
Bertrand Cuiller was born in 1978 and studied harpsichord with Pierre Hantaï. He is also interested in modern music, and has premiered works by Jean-Yves Bosseur and Olivier Mellano. In 2012/13 Cuiller conducted his first opera, Blow’s Venus & Adonis. In 2015 his recording of Rameau’s complete harpsichord music was released. In 2014 he founded his own ensemble, Le Caravansérail.
