About this concert

The almost obsessive ornamentation of the galant style finds its Renaissance counterpart in finely tuned rhythmic details and vivid word-painting that lend a generous curl to the vocal polyphony. The Portuguese Officium Ensemble pairs sumptuously ornamented motets by Byrd, Philips, Guerrero, Sweelinck and De Victoria with an exceptionally richly adorned mass for double choir by Duarte Lobo.

About the performers

Officium ranks among the most prominent of Portuguese vocal ensembles in the field of early music. The repertoire of Officium - of which Pedro Teixeira has taken on the artistic leadership – mostly consists of Portuguese Renaissance polyphony. The ensemble is internationally renowned for its lively and expressive performances, in which much attention is paid to text expression and interpretation.
