About this concert
We like to share early music news farm-fresh. And so the Butter Quartet – in 2019 finalists in the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition – is already a highlight of the festival programme. Together with Konstantin Shchenikov, the quartet is setting course for Bayreuth at the time of Wilhelmine, the sister of Frederick the Great, with unique music for lute and ensemble by composers such as Falckenhagen and Kleinknecht. This programme was part of the International Days of the Lute. See luitdagen.nl for more information.

About the performers
The members of the Butter Quartet share a love of lively, historically informed performances. They first played together during their studies at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. The four of them quickly developed a passion and dynamism that went beyond the scope of their studies. Apart from early music, the Butter Quartet is interested in newly composed works for historical instruments.
