About this concert
Inspired by what he had heard in Italy, Jean-Marie Leclair prised French violin music out of its deep-rooted traditions. In the second quarter of the eighteenth century he established the French violin school, which produced dedicated disciples but also ardent sceptics. Les Plaisirs du Parnasse reunites Leclair with rivals Aubert, Quentin and Boismortier for a round of highly strung squabbling.

About the performers
The ensemble Les Plaisirs du Parnasse, founded in 2004 by violinist David Plantier and other members of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, takes its name from Mount Parnassus. In Greek mythology this mountain was a true sanctuary of the arts. Les Plaisirs du Parnasse likes to go off the beaten track, by bringing unknown composers and/or compositions into the limelight.
