About this concert
She penned most of her Notenbüchlein herself. But Anna Magdalena Bach was much more than the copyist and wife of Johann Sebastian. A gifted singer, she was also the recipient of the soprano songs in the booklet. Anna steps into the spotlight with Ensemble Odyssee, which pairs a selection from her treasured collection with arrangements of a Bach concerto and cantata.

About the performers
The core members of Amsterdam-based Ensemble Odyssee are Eva Saladin (violin), Anna Stegmann (recorder), Georg Fritz (oboe) and Andrea Friggi (harpsichord). The young Baroque ensemble performs early music in various formations, from chamber music to orchestra. Their first CDs have been devoted to unknown Neapolitan repertoire from the seventeenth century, and they have also recorded music by Woodcock, Babell and Ariosti. As a chamber music ensemble Odyssee has been a prize-winner at the International Van Wassenaer Competition.
Dutch soprano Channa Malkin made her debut as a 16-year-old with the Dutch National Opera, and a few years later graduated with honours from the Utrechts Conservatorium with Charlotte Margiono. With vocal coach Rosemary Joshua, she discovered her passion for early music. The jury of the 2020 Grachtenfestival Prize praised Channa Malkin for her 'compelling musical personality and unbridled creativity'. In 2021, she released her debut album Songs of Love and Exile, for which she collaborated with guitarist Izhar Elias. In January 2023, she made her recital debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
