About this concert

The Cancionero de la Colombina is one of Seville's treasures. Manufactured in the palace of the Dukes of Medina Sidonia in the 15th century, the songbook was acquired in 1534 by bibliophile Hernando Colón, son of Christopher Columbus. Fahmi Alqhai, with his singers and instrumentalists, takes the lead in a blistering rediscovery of this sublime music, once the daily bread of the phenomenal ducal chapel.

About the performers

Accademia del Piacere was founded in 2002 by Syrian/Spanish gambist Fahmi Alqhai. The group won high praise for its programmes centred on Monteverdi’s Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, and for French chamber music from the time of Louis XIV. In collaboration with flamenco singer Arcángel, Accademia del Piacere explored the relationship between flamenco and Baroque music. The ensemble has numerous CD awards to its name, and won the Spanish GEMA Award for Best Baroque Ensemble in 2016 and 2017.
