About this concert

With the folk influences that Domenico Scarlatti absorbed during his stay in Seville, he gave Iberian keyboard music a decisive turn. The idea, however, cannot be entirely credited to him: at the Portuguese court he had taught Carlos Seixas, a young keyboardist who was experimenting with folk music. Antonio Soler, in turn, had his composer's hand guided by Scarlatti. Pieter-Jan Belder interweaves the musical ins and outs of this fascinating triumvirate.

About the performer

Pieter-Jan Belder studied recorder with Ricardo Kanji at the Royal Conservatorium of The Hague, and harpsichord with Bob van Asperen at the Amsterdam Sweelinck Conservatorium.  Since his graduation from both schools in 1990, he has had a flourishing career as a harpsichordist, clavichord player, organist, forte-pianist and recorder player, appearing at many international festivals. He was awarded prizes at the Hamburg NDR Music harpsichord competition and the Leipzig Bach harpsichord competition. Apart from his busy schedule of solo recitals, Belder is also very much in demand as a continuo player with a variety of ensembles.
