About this concert
Was Juan Vázquez the victim of a smear campaign? The preface to his collection Agenda defunctorum already calls for his work to be defended against 'bigots who mock it'! In villancicos, canciones and sonetos, Eduardo Egüez and La Chimera make an instrumental plea for this forgotten Renaissance master who was active at Seville Cathedral in the heyday of Cristóbal de Morales and Francisco Guerrero.

About the performers
While La Chimera was founded in 2001 as a viola da gamba consort, the ensemble has taken a different form since its encounter with now-musical director Eduardo Egüez. Preserving the original sound characteristics of the violas, La Chimera has become a versatile ensemble composed of internationally renowned artists on a variety of instruments. The group focuses on the creation of original projects, where the different art forms and cultures brought by the members of the group converge. This is how, as well as projects entirely dedicated to early music, the ensemble has created “early-fusion” projects, merging ancient and modern music.
