About this concert
Ratas del viejo Mundo looks behind the scenes of the Renaissance with work by Pierre de la Rue: creator of polyphony that is as monumental as it is personal. His Missa Conceptio tua honours the Immaculate Conception of Mary with grandiose counterpoint. But De la Rue also shows his finesse in more modest genres – such as the chanson. It’s no wonder that lutenists improvised on his melodies to their heart's content. The freedoms of the time resonate in this collusion between strings and voices.

About the performers
Ratas del Viejo Mundo is an international collective led by lutenist Floris De Rycker. Their repertoire ranges from instrumental works and chansons to grand polyphony. Moving between virtuosity and quiet intimacy, the group challenges the romanticized image of the Renaissance and explores the intersections between written music and oral traditions.
