About this concert
Anyone who thinks that ordinary days only deserve ordinary music has not reckoned with Pierre de la Rue. His Missa de Feria, intended for non-festive days during the church year, is anything but modest! This five-part mass boasts two strictly canonic parts: a contrapuntal tour de force that sparkles in the parchment showcase called Mechels Koorboek. Cappella Pratensis sings directly from the historical notation and sheds light on the everyday yet glorious life at the Burgundian court.

About the performers
Cappella Pratensis, under its artistic director Tim Braithwaite, is a vocal ensemble specializing in the performance of polyphonic masterpieces by composers including Josquin Desprez. The singers gather around a central music lectern and sing from a single choirbook. In 2022 the ensemble won the REMA-EEMN Heritage Project of the Year Award with the CD recording Apostola apostolorum. Moreover, they received the prestigious Grammophone Classical Music award in 2024, for their recording of Obrecht’s Missa Maria zart. Capella Pratensis makes a priority of passing on its knowledge to both professionals and amateurs through masterclasses, workshops, and an annual summer course, and it trains young singers within the ensemble itself.
