About this concert
Duchess Margaret of Austria collected not only art but also sound. Vojtěch Semerád and Cappella Mariana bring to life two unique manuscripts from her collection: the Choirbook and her personal Songbook. Pierre de la Rue’s Missa de Sancta Cruce is surrounded by laments reflecting Margaret’s personal losses: the farewell to her father, the death of her brother, and her painful departure from the French court. A rare glimpse into the musical diary of a royal.

About the performers
Cappella Mariana is a vocal ensemble specializing in Medieval and Renaissance polyphony and the vocal repertoire of Early Baroque. The performances of Cappella Mariana have met with enthusiastic reception from the public and critics alike, the latter highlighting the ensemble’s expressive performance. Cappella Mariana was founded in 2008 as one of the few Czech ensembles focusing on the interpretation of high vocal polyphony, especially from Italian, Flemish, and English Renaissance, and is currently under artistic direction of Vojtěch Semerád.
