About this concert
Imagine. Bach's Das wohltemperierte Klavier, from the first note to the last, but just a bit different. That is what we promise with this delightful four-part series. It will be a virtuosic relay in which gamba consort Phantasm alternates with harpsichordist Francesco Cera in Bach's tour de force. You will get all 48 of them, the famous preludes and fugues considered to be the ultimate musical bible by Mendelssohn and Beethoven, and by countless composers to this day. The strings and the harpsichord hero (Cera's recording of the entire collection won international awards) take turns ‘running’ through this showcase of technical ingenuity and wordless storytelling. Where the keyboard sparkles brightly, the gambas deliver melodies of timeless beauty. A hypnotic voyage of discovery along two tracks, to the heart of the baroque.

Laurence Dreyfus is not only an award-winning gambist but also the founder and leader of the already legendary Phantasm. With more than twenty recordings and concert tours in the world's major early music venues, the ensemble has set the bar high for all those wishing to venture into consort music: repertoire unparalleled in intensity, finesse and virtuoso interaction. Henry Purcell, Orlando Gibbons and William Byrd: for fans of superior string and pluck work from the golden era of the gamba consort, Phantasm is an absolute must.
Francesco Cera is internationally recognized for his performances of 17th and 18th century keyboard music and one of the leading specialists in Frescobaldi, as well as conductor of Italian early Baroque vocal repertoire. Disciple of Gustav Leonhardt and Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini, after being member of Il Giardino Armonico and collaborations with renowned early music specialists, in 1997 he founded the Ensemble Arte Musica, performing Italian vocal repertoire. He has performed as a soloist and conductor in international festivals throughout the whole of Europe. He has also undertaken a long-time partnership with I Barocchisti conducted by Diego Fasolis.
