About this concert
William Byrd is the embodiment of polyphony, all by himself. At the Protestant court of Elizabeth I, he was regarded as a loyal court musician. Yet secretly, he also wrote music for the persecuted Catholic community. With a carefully curated selection from Byrd's shimmering motets, hushed prayers, and intense choruses of jubilation, Stile Antico weaves aspects of his life as an artist, subject, dissident, and recluse into a single striking portrait.
