About this concert

The house lights dim, murmurs turn into whispers, beads of sweat tickle the palms: the exciting competition rounds of the International Van Wassenaer Competition are always a highlight of the festival programme.

We are more than happy to give a voice to new talent on the early music scene in this competition, in which young ensembles are encouraged to win over both the jury and the audience with technical excellence, interesting programme choices, performances full of character and a touch of flair.

About the performers

La Capriola was founded in 2021 at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, born out of a shared passion for Renaissance music. The ensemble explores the sonic world of historical string instruments, featuring violins and viols in various registers. Through a combination of source research, musicality and experimentation, La Capriola brings both well-known and forgotten repertoire to life. In this way, the ensemble seeks new ways to share the richness and versatility of European Renaissance music with a wide audience.
