About this concert

The house lights dim, murmurs turn into whispers, beads of sweat tickle the palms: the exciting competition rounds of the International Van Wassenaer Competition are always a highlight of the festival programme.

We are more than happy to give a voice to new talent on the early music scene in this competition, in which young ensembles are encouraged to win over both the jury and the audience with technical excellence, interesting programme choices, performances full of character and a touch of flair.

About the performers

Matica de Flor was founded in 2022 at the CNSMD in Lyon by four musicians who shared an interest in the musical cultures of the Mediterranean region. The ensemble combines singing with a distinctive instrumental line-up comprising lutes and guitars, viola da gamba, vielle, recorders, bansuri and percussion. Drawing on historical sources, oral tradition, improvisation and their own arrangements, Matica de Flor brings together music from different eras and regions. The four musicians sing and play multiple instruments, meaning that the line-up constantly changes in character from programme to programme.
