About MA Competition
The MA Competition – launched in 1964 – has developed into a prestigious international music competition and an unparalleled pool of talent.
Aimed at discovering new stars and facilitating fresh encounters, it is a unique platform for the training and professional integration of up-andcoming young artists. Its uniqueness is rooted in its home at the heart of the MA Festival.
The MA Competition has boosted the international careers of numerous now renowned musicians, among them Christophe Rousset (°1961), Kristian Bezuidenhout (°1979), Dmitry Sinkovsky (°1980), Jean Rondeau (°1991) and Justin Taylor (°1992).
The jury
The jury members for this edition are Korneel Bernolet (chair), Richard Egarr, Béatrice Martin, Mitzi Meyerson, and Jean Rondeau.
Semifinal
Twelve candidates were selected during the digital first round of the competition in May.
They have now travelled to Bruges and will be proving their great talent once again in today’s semifinal.
Final
Today we hear the competition’s five best harpsichordists.
In this final round, accompanied by the strings of Il Gardellino, each candidate performs three works, culminating in Ligeti’s Passacaglia Ungherese. The winner receives a cash prize, a concert at the MA Festival 2027 and a recording on the prestigious Ricercar label.
